Yoga is medicine

Diane’s Diary

Yoga is Medicine. We teach it. We know it. The whole world is coming to know it through Yoga Research.

Most yoga research is privately funded because the Pharmaceutical Industry is not interested in the body’s ability to heal itself.

Pure Action, based in Austin, Texas is the leader of yoga research in our community. Their mission is “to bring the ancient benefits of Yoga to mainstream medicine through Scientific Research, Global Education, and Community Outreach.” They present new research and findings every year at the Annual Yoga Research Conference. Founded by dialogueworks Team Members, Jeff and Mardy Chen, with Lindsey Stanley as Director of Development, they are making tremendous strides in yoga research.

This year’s conference is being held in Boston, MA at Harvard Medical Center on October 21-22. We are thrilled that it is in our region, and we are so excited to meet the researchers and hear about their latest findings.

Last year’s conference had me talking about the research for months. It impressed me that the researchers did yoga themselves and wanted to scientifically prove that yoga worksm, yoga is medicine. Even better. They studied depression, pregnancy, breathing techniques and so much more. There is no end to yoga and it seems to me there is no end to yoga research.

You can get involved in different ways. You can always send a donation to Pure Action (www.pureaction.org). This is the web site for all things research related.

There will be a Cambridge Community Donation Yoga Class at Bikram Yoga Cambridge, 30 JFK Street, Cambridge MA at 6pm on Friday, October 20, 2017 that I will have the honor of teaching. The minimum donation suggestion is $10.00 (mat included, towels available for rent).

You can sign up for the upcoming conference through the Pure Action website. Yoga Talk will be presented on Saturday night, October 21st. This is only $25.00 and is created to inspire and educate you.

Yoga research assures us that yoga will be part of our world for a long time to come.

Love,
Diane Gardner
